Selfridges and Rough Trade set out to bring the feel of a real record shop into one of London's busiest retail environments: something to experience, not just look at.
Rule One delivered the scenic fabrication, the full build and installation, and the integration into the trading store around it. The hard part was the feeling. Record shops carry cultural weight and can't look manufactured or over-designed, so material choices, proportions, layout and finish all had to land.
The space was built from custom browsing units, feature display walls and a listening lounge, in OSB, colour blocking and a warm timber palette, with nothing off the shelf. The listening lounge anchored it: it slowed people down and made them stay.
It was all delivered within the constraints of a live store, where timing, access and coordination matter as much as the build itself. The result feels established, not installed.
